Date Night OOTD: Sequins and Distressed Denim

My mom bought this French Connection sequin minidress for me and my sisters a couple of years ago when we were visiting Bath, England.  We were excited about it because the dress was named the “Shelley”- and that is my mom’s name!

My sisters have worn it as a dress but as the tallest sis I can’t really pull it off as a dress- it is way too short for me.  I have worn it over leggings in the wintertime but tonight I decided to pull it out and wear it as a top for date night!

I could have chosen black leggings or dark denim for this look but I really wanted the high contrast of distressed medium blue denim with the dressy sequins.  I wanted it to be a little more casual than it would have been with a darker bottom.  I like the color combo of the salmon with the medium blue.  I chose sleek pointed toe booties to elongate the look of the bottom half, this was key to pulling off this look since I chose such a strong contrasting pant.   I think it would work with strappy sandals if I had been wearing a dark bottom.  As usual I couldn’t be bothered to accessorize more than my apple watch and a quick clutch!Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Have you tried dressing down your sequins to make them more wearable? It’s a fun look to wear!

well of course I’m wearing mom jeans!

My OOTD featuring mom jeans!
If you haven’t tried high waist denim it’s time to embrace it.  It’s an easy update for your jeans.  If you’ve not ready for high waist yet,  you should be choosing at least a medium rise.  The days of low rises are gone for now…
I’m wearing Levi’s 501 in Old Blues from Shopbop via Amazon…
I’m wearing Gap high rise in this photo, but I’m always a fan of Old Navy Rockstars and they come in a high waist (size down!) and they are super inexpensive when you grab them on sale- my go to price is about $25, you can usually snag them with a code every couple of weeks!
